Jailbreak iOS 6 Beta On iPhone And iPod touch (A4 Devices) Using Redsn0w 0.9.13dev1

The jailbreak community and the technology loving world have been talking about it for quite a while now, discussing what they believed would and wouldn’t be included in Apple’s overhaul of iOS. The Worldwide Developers Conference pretty much confirmed or dismissed all of the speculation, leaving us with the first beta of Apple’s iOS 6 software to get our teeth into.
As is the case with nearly all new iOS updates these days, all limera1nable A4 based devices and below like the iPhone 4, iPod touch 4G, iPhone 3GS can now be jailbroken (tethered-only) using the just released Redsn0w 0.9.13dev1.
Before you go ahead with this tethered jailbreak guide below, it must be noted that:
  • Jailbreak is meant for developers who are looking to fix bugs in their broken tweaks/apps.
  • iOS 6 beta is currently available to registered developers of iOS Dev Center only.
  • Cydia wont be installed.
  • Jailbreak is compatible with A4 devices only.
  • Hacktivation is not supported.

Step 1: Download the latest version of the iPhone Dev Team’s Redsn0w tool, make sure to get the right compatible version for your operating system. [Windows | Mac]

Step 2: Locate the downloaded Redsn0w zip file and uncompress the contents to a familiar location.

Step 3: Download iOS 6 beta IPSW firmware file legally from iOS Dev Center only. Make sure that the downloaded firmware file is specific to the device you are attempting to jailbreak. Once you have downloaded the firmware file, restore it on your device using either Xcode or iTunes.

Note: Before going through anjailbreak process it is always good practice to make a full backup of the device contents. Connect the iDevice to iTunes via a USB cable and make a complete backup through the normal process. If preferred, an iCloud backup can be made.

Step 4: Run the Redsn0w executable file and select ‘Extras‘ from the main interface before clicking the ‘Select IPSW‘ option.

Step 5: Locate and select the iOS 6 beta firmware file.

Step 6: On the main interface of Redsn0w, select the ‘Jailbreak‘ option.

Step 7: The rest of the process is pretty self explanatory, with Redsn0w providing on-screen prompts relating to the jailbreak procedure. The only user interaction required is to put the connected device into DFU mode so make sure to follow the steps on screen exactly.

Step 8: When DFU mode is detected by Redsn0w, the rest of the process will be automatically completed by the software. As you’d expect, the jailbreak is tethered-boot, which means; if you come across an instance that your device loses power or restarts, then you would have to boot it into the jailbroken state again. The process of booting it back into the jailbroken state is quite simple actually, simply plug in your device to your PC or Mac, fire up Redsn0w, click on the "Extras" button on screen and then simply click on "Just Boot" and follow the on-screen instructions.

Again, Cydia wont be installed. This is because it is currently not ready for iOS 6 yet. The only way to access the device is through SSH or afc2. As MuscleNerd has said in the official blog post, “ If you don’t know what either of those are, you shouldn’t be using this developer version of redsn0w!”

iOS 6 Beta Has Been Jailbroken On A4 Devices, But Don’t Expect A Public Beta Jailbreak Release Anytime Soon

The world wide web has been rife with speculation over the last few weeks as Apple’s annual Worldwide Developer Conference drew closer, leaving us all wondering just what Tim Cook and his team would introduce to the world. While the opening keynote presentation has been and gone, we are still left in a state of awe as we try and digest the marvels that were announced on stage at the Moscone.

From what I can gather, even the most seasoned WWDC visitors believe this year’s opening presentation was the best yet, with a lot of that being put down to the fact that Apple announced updates to their entire range of notebooks along with a new version of OS X and the breathtaking new version of their mobile operating system, iOS 6.

For the many thousands of Apple fans who also happen to be hardcore jailbreakers, it would have been interesting for them to watch as Apple introduced a number of features that negate the need for a few Cydia tweaks going forward. As Apple seeded first beta of download iOS 6 to developers, many wondered if it was possible to tether-jailbreak A4-devices using the latest Redsn0w tool, especially Cydia developers who may want to update their jailbreak tweaks for iOS 6 compatibility.

We would love to sit here and break the wonderful news that iOS 6 beta is jailbreakable using the latest version of Redsn0w, but, unfortunately it just isn’t the case this time around. We have tested jailbreaking both our iPhone 4, as well as our 4th-gen iPod touch on iOS 6 beta using Redsn0w. Unfortunately, when pointing the Redsn0w jailbreak tool to an older firmware like iOS 5.1.1, the jailbreak is just not successful. This will certainly prove to be a negative in a day that has brought a lot of positives for Apple fans, but this to be honest was expected with so many API changes introduced with iOS 6.

While MuscleNerd of iPhone Dev Team has managed to get his A4 based iPod touch jailbroken, he has confirmed that many things including Cydia is currently not compatible on iOS 6 yet:

So yes, don’t expect a beta jailbreak for iOS 6 for a while. Quite a few casual jailbreakers may not actually feel the need to jailbreak soon, as Apple have added a number of feature improvements to iOS 6 that have been found to be extremely successful downloads from Cydia.

This certainly shouldn’t dampen the spirits of jailbreak fans. I would imagine that the Jailbreak Dream Team are already hard at work researching the internals of the current beta release to see exactly what they can do with it.

Download OS X Mountain Lion Developer Preview 4 Today From Mac Dev Center

There has been a lot of chatter over the Internet for last few months about OS X Mountain Lion, Apple’s latest OS for the Mac. Considering Apple is an ever evolving company, with consumers developing a growing admiration for their OS X and iOS operating systems, the company have opted for a new direction with Mountain Lion with an offering that shows the first signs of unity between desktop and mobile.

After various developer releases that have been pushed out to fix multiple issues, Apple has finally deemed Mountain Lion stable enough to blessed it with a “near final” Developer Preview 4 tag, available for download by developers enrolled in the OS X development program. The release of the Developer Preview 4 version of the new operating system means that Apple is pretty much done applying the polish and finishing touches to the software, with a prime time public release coming next month in July.

The Mountain Lion OS has seemingly split public opinion since its announcement, but it definitely goes some way to showing the world just what Apple’s future plans are. The company describes the OS as bringing a whole host of new features that have been inspired by the hugely successful iPad and re-imagined for the Mac, with the hope that it makes the Mac experience smarter, easier and a lot more intuitive and fun.

Deeper integration with iCloud allows users to sign-in with a registered Apple ID to automatically have iCloud support across the whole system, something that will greatly benefit features such as mail, calendars and documents. OS X Mountain Lion also brings a significant and much needed update to the iChat application, rebranding it to ‘Messages’ and bringing the ability to send unlimited free of charge iMessages to users of Macs, iPhones, iPads and iPod touches.

Popular iOS-based applications such as Reminders, Notes, Notification Center have also been integrated into Mountain Lion, as well as sharing sheets being littered throughout the system for complete social interaction with services such as Vimeo, Flickr, Facebook and Twitter. Mountain Lion represents a monumental change for Mac users and goes way beyond being an evolutionary operating system upgrade, feeling more like a new relationship is being formed with OS X and iOS.

As mentioned earlier, the released DP4 build of Mountain Lion is only available to registered Mac OS X developers, so if that applies to you then head on over to the Developer Center and download your copy now.

iOS 6 Announced For iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Here’s Everything You Need To Know

With the rumor mill having been in overdrive over the past couple of months, Apple has finally released those all-important details of its upcoming iOS 6, and as it turns out, most of the suspected features of the fruit company’s forthcoming mobile operating system are included, along with a few surprises.

New 3D Maps

Maps

Apple’s desire to rid iOS of Google Maps in place of its own, in-house offering is the worst-kept secret in Silicon Valley, and today’s Keynote at WWDC gave us an in-depth insight into what we’re going to be seeing with the new maps app.
Thanks to the Cupertino company’s acquisition of C3 Technologies, iOS 6 will feature a beautiful 3D mapping offering, and in terms of aesthetics, it’s beautiful to look at.

Siri Updates For iOS 6

Siri has come a long way in iOS 6. You can now ask Siri about latest sports updates, make reservations in your favorite restaurants using OpenTable service, ask Siri about latest movies with Rotten Tomatoes, watch movie trailers, ask about actors and directors and more. You can now launch apps, tweet directly on Twitter. Apple has partners with Audi, BMW, Mercedes etc for a hardware button for launching Siri in cars. Support for Canadian, Italian, Korean, Mandarin for Taiwan etc has been added.

Siri Now Available on iPad (3rd-Gen)

Siri
While the much-changed Maps app is arguably the centerpiece of iOS 6 as a whole, it will also be remembered as the moment when Siri finally reached the iPad. Apple’s system-wide voice recognition software has been much-lauded by Tim Cook’s company since first featuring with the iPhone 4S back in October, but the lack of support for other devices – particularly the all-conquering tablet – has left many iDevice enthusiasts bemused.

On the iPad, it looks much the same as on the iPhone version, but given the 9.7-inch display, the voice partner doesn’t command so much real-estate – allowing most of the background to be seen when activated.

Native Facebook Integration

Facebook

Those frequenting Facebook will be pleased to know that integration for the world’s foremost social networking site has been stepped up greatly, in a similar fashion to which Twitter was welded into iOS 5. If you wish, your Facebook login credentials can be saved onto your device, which subsequently makes logging in, linking, and posting status updates, pictures, and location to your profile from any app, or natively from iOS Notification Center a much more streamlined process.

Updates for Stock Apps & OS-wide Features

Phone

Native Phone app has received an update, a “Do Not Disturb” and “Repeated Calls” toggle has been added to Settings.app. FaceTime over Cellular is now available.
Safari has been updated with support for offline reading lists, ability to upload photos directly from Safari. Mail has been updated with pull to refresh for messages in inbox.
You can also now share Photo Steam pictures with your friends.
Other features include:
  • Guided Access
  • New Game Center challenges
  • New Privacy Controls
  • Redesigned Stores
  • Added ‘lost mode’ to Find My iPhone service
Baidu Search
Chinese consumers will see Google Search replaced by the fast-growing Baidu, which, along with the maps situation, is another body blow to the US-based web company.
Baidu has become the search engine of choice in the world’s largest market, so Apple is operating on a supply-demand basis, although won’t be shedding many tears for the huge potential revenue loss on the part of its compatriot and fierce rival.
Compatibility

iOS 6 is compatible with iPhone 4S, iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPod touch 4th-gen, iPad 2, and iPad (3rd-gen)
Availability

It only seems like yesterday iOS 5 arrived in a hail of glory, but the previews of iOS 6 on display today show Apple has been working hard on updating and improving its software for the hundreds of millions of iPhone, iPad and iPod touch users worldwide. As of today, iOS 6 beta is available for registered developers of iOS Dev Center.
Final version of iOS 6 will become available to the public later this year alongside the next iPhone, which, as you might expect, Apple neglected to mention today.

Download iOS 6 Beta For iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Apple TV [Developers Only]

With iOS 6 having just been announced, the beta version of the upcoming firmware has now been seeded. And, as usual, this first released build of iOS 6 beta is only available to registered members of Apple’s developer program, so if you’re a non-developer hoping to catch a glimpse of the future, sadly, you’re going to have to wait.

Although iOS 5 certainly alleviated many pet peeves within Apple’s mobile OS, there’s always room for improvement, and if the showcasing of iOS 6 at WWDC is anything to go by, then iPhone, iPad and iPod touch users will be in for a treat once the new software drops later this year.

ios6betalogo

Of the well-documented array of features, the new Maps services from Apple is arguably the clincher, although native Facebook integration will certainly go down well. With Twitter already welded into iOS as of last October, it was inevitable that Mark Zuckerberg’s company would get in on the act, and the more social amongst us will certainly reap the benefits when using both native and third-party apps.
Given that this is the very first beta, it’s likely to have a few bugs, although I suspect those downloading will initially just be anxious to assess the foundations and grab a hands-on preview of the brand new software – that’s certainly my intention!

As ever, there are likely to be various leaks via the usual download mediums of iOS 6b1, but we strongly advise against installing these on your device. Besides being potentially dangerous – after all, anybody could have messed with them before they reach your downloads folder, it’s actually illegal, and Apple has been known to pounce dogmatically on those found to be running illegal versions of unreleased software.

Scaremongering aside, since it only costs $99 per year to register as an Apple developer, you really ought to just sign-up legally if you’ve got a vested interest in upcoming iOS software. Not only is it great for previewing features limited from the end-user, but it’s an awesome way to learn more about the inner frameworks of iOS as a whole.

We’re likely to see quite a few betas before the official release, all of which will bring various updates and improvements, so stay tuned to our coverage here for our round-the-clock commentary.

iOS 6 beta can be downloaded officially from iOS Dev Center.

Next-Gen MacBook Pro With Retina Display 2880 x 1800, Ivy Bridge i7, NVIDIA Graphics Announced, Shipping Today

Apple always manages to come through with a surprise or two at WWDC, and this year is no exception. In a move that nobody foresaw, the Cupertino outfit has unveiled brand-new, “Next Generation MacBook Pro.”
After introducing a refresh to the MacBook Air and MacBook Pro ranges – bereft of the expected Retina display – Apple came through by showcasing it’s brand new model, which is essentially an amalgam of both popular notebooks with a few added extras thrown in for good measure.

MacBook Pro new retina

At 0.71 inches, it’s almost as thin as the revolutionary MacBook Air, and at just under 4.5lbs, it’s extremely light. The 15.4-inch display follows the precedent set by the iPhone 4/4S and the third-gen iPad by packing in an incredible amount of pixels, equating to what Apple describes as the “Retina display,” and at 2880×1800, it blows any other notebook out of the water in terms of pixel density.
As well as the screen, which will be enough to leave the majority of MacBook fans foaming at the mouth, it boasts quad core CPU i5 or i7, up to 16GB of RAM, and can offer the power users up to 768GB of flash storage. It packs in NVIDIA GeForce GT 650m graphics, and despite the sleuth of hardware upgrades, still manages to hold battery for 7 hours, which is astonishing.

It includes USB 3.0, Thunderbolt, as well as the usual connectors, and I have to say, it looks to be a game-changing piece of kit. The ultrabook market has done a pretty poor job of competing with the MacBook Air hitherto, and if you ever had reservations regarding a MacBook purchase, they surely will have been dispelled by this announcement.

Although the MacBook Pro and Air received handsome upgrades, I cannot see how consumers will be able to opt for the older models over the slick powerhouse that is the next-gen MacBook Pro. at $2199, price could wind up being a factor for many, but with so many advantages over both the regular Pro and Air, it’s worth saving up for.
hero

After seeing Apple unleash the hardware with the third iPad, Tim Cook’s company certainly isn’t doing things by halves in 2012, rendering the prospect of the next iPhone later this year just that little bit more exciting.
And here comes the surprising bit, it’s available today.
